"The vision of Jean Augustine Secondary School is rooted in empowering learners and leading learning forward. One of the lenses used to develop an institution which fosters empowerment includes equity. Student voice and perspective is included within the decision making process which creates an equitable and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and community members.
Through the social innovation IDC3O course, students were encouraged to problem find and problem solve an issue that impacts themselves. Ashleen Gill began her work by critical analyzing and reflecting on her learning experience throughout her 12 years within the Peel District School Board’s education system. By encouraging and empowering her, Ashleen has designed workshops for educators where the student narrative and perspective are the focus.

"It’s great to see teachers learning from students about gender stereotypes that go unnoticed daily in our society. Unlabelled has given me a voice and made me feel comfortable to be able to talk to administrators about issues like this."
